This panel comes from the Marches, a region on the eastern side of Italy. The presence of Saint Dominic, holding a stem of lilies while spreading his cloak over a group of Dominican nuns and novices kneeling in prayer, suggests that this panel belonged to a nunnery of that order. It is a typical example of the two-sided panels that were carried in religious processions.
