Brooklyn artist Pierre Francillon responds to works in the exhibition Andy Warhol: The Last Decade. Presented in conjunction with Haiti Cultural Exchange. Free tickets (30) are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

Film

6–7:30 p.m.

Poto Mitan: Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy (Renée Bergan and Mark Schuller, 2009, 50 min., NR). Documentary about the lives and struggles of Haitian women workers. Co-director Renée Bergan introduces the film and answers questions after the screening. Free tickets (30) are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

Hands-On Art

6:30–8:30 p.m.

Learn about the homemade instruments used by Haitian rara bands—including drums, horns, and shakers—and then make your own. Free timed tickets (380) are available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

Artist Talk

7 p.m.

Artist Lorraine O’Grady talks about her work Miscegenated Family Album, the Museum's featured object for August. Free tickets (30) are available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

Master drummer Frisner Augustin of La Troupe Makandal leads a drum circle. Bring your drum! View event details.

Discussion

Sabine Toussaint leads a community discussion about rebuilding Haiti.

Dance Party

Brooklyn-based Haitian DJ Hard Hittin’ Harry and the Earthman Experience present a Haitian Carnival-style dance party with compas, soca, calypso, and other world music. View event details.

Jazz musician Obed Jean-Louis, presented in conjunction with Haiti Cultural Exchange.

At the Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturdays, thousands of visitors enjoy free programs of art and entertainment each month from 5 to 11 p.m. All evening long, the Museum Café serves a wide selection of sandwiches, salads, and beverages, and a cash bar offers wine and beer. Parking is a flat rate of $4 starting at 5 p.m. All other Saturdays, the Museum closes at 6 p.m.

Please note that due to limited capacities, some Target First Saturday programs require tickets. Ticket lines often form 30 minutes before ticket distribution at the Visitor Center located in the Rubin Lobby. Members may pick up tickets from the Membership Desk beginning at 2 p.m. while supplies last. Programs subject to change without notice.
