Thursday, March 21, 2013

7–7 pm

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Forum, 4th Floor

Scholar and performer April Lynn James presents the history of opera, from its inception in the seventeenth-century Italian courts to the public opera houses of nineteenth-century Paris, while highlighting the lesser-known work of women composers. Dr. James revives the stories of Francesca Caccini, Louise Bertin, Gabrielle Ferrari, and Electress of Saxony Maria Antonia, whose legacy is honored on the Heritage Floor of The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago.
