Art Experience: “See, Make, Sip”

Thursday, May 30, 2013

6:30–9:30 pm

Meet in the Rubin Lobby, 1st Floor

Enjoy a multisensory art experience. Express tours of three exhibitions provide inspiration for art-making projects, followed by art-inspired cocktails. Participate in one, or all three. DJ Rabbi Darkside provides beats and music.

6:30 p.m. Gravity and Grace: Monumental Works by El Anatsui*

Learn to use a lap loom to weave found materials into a decorative wall hanging. Led by artists from Brooklyn’s Textile Arts Center.

7:30 p.m. Life, Death, and Transformation in the Americas*

Make a Pachamama amulet bag in the shape of the earth mother goddess of Andean folk culture. Bring small items like favorite buttons, beads, or fabric scraps to sew onto your bag. Led by visual artist Radiah Harper.

8:30 p.m. Valerie Hegarty: Alternative Histories

In response to Hegarty’s remixing of history, artist Caits Meissner shows you how to create a mixed-media, collage-based work.

*The 6:30 and 7:30 tours also available en Español.

After each art experience, cocktail creator Ryan Kahl leads a cocktail demonstration and tasting. Other drinks and small bites available in the Museum Café. Tickets are free with Museum admission and can be purchased at the Visitor Center or online at www.museumtix.com.
