In this three-part series, guest scholars, educators, artists, writers, activists, and cultural workers engage in public dialogues exploring themes of black female identity in mainstream culture.



The first conversation examines how the black female body is objectified in public arenas, whether on the stage, in the digital sphere, or on the street. The discussion is moderated by Toni Blackman, artist, activist, and U.S. State Department Hip-Hop Ambassador, and includes Reverend Desiree Allen, theater director Charlotte Braithwaite, composer and performer Karma Mayet Johnson, and Shannon Washington, co-founder and Digital and Advertising Creative Director of Parlour Magazine.
