Cimarrón Spirit (Rubén Durán, 2015, 53 min.) celebrates the diverse, resilient, and resourceful masquerade traditions of the cimarrones, descendants of Taíno Indians and escaped enslaved Africans, that exist outside mainstream Dominican society. New York City premiere, followed by a talkback with the director and a performance by Taíno folksinger Irka Mateo.
