Curator-Led Member Tour: It’s Pablo-matic: Picasso According to Hannah Gadsby
Wednesday, June 7, 2023
6–7:30 pm
Robert E. Blum Gallery, 1st Floor
Join us for a private after-hours tour of It’s Pablo-matic: Picasso According to Hannah Gadsby with Catherine Morris, Sackler Senior Curator, Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, and Lisa Small, Senior Curator, European Art. It’s Pablo-matic examines Pablo Picasso’s complicated legacy through a critical, contemporary, and feminist lens, even as it acknowledges his work’s transformative power and lasting influence. The tour will guide Members through numerous highlights of the exhibition, including pieces by Picasso and selections by twentieth- and twenty-first-century women artists such as Cecily Brown, Renee Cox, Käthe Kollwitz, Dindga McCannon, Ana Mendieta, Marilyn Minter, Joan Semmel, Kiki Smith, May Stevens, and Mickalene Thomas. Highlighting Gadsby’s voice alongside those of many of the included artists, the exhibition reckons with complex questions around misogyny, creativity, the art-historical canon, and “genius.”
This tour is reserved for the Director’s Circle and Members of our Council for African American Art, Council for Feminist Art, Contemporary Art Committee, Brooklyn Families, Young Leadership Council, and Legacy Circle in thanks for their generous support of the Brooklyn Museum.
