Film Screening and Panel Discussion: Mirrors: Experiments in Portraiture

Sunday, July 15, 2012

2–2 pm

Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor

The online feminist film quarterly Joan’s Digest and the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art present Mirrors: Experiments in Portraiture. This selection of work from renowned, Brooklyn-based filmmakers Amy Granat, Leslie Thornton, and Marie Losier will be followed by a panel discussion on the experimental film industry.  All three filmmakers work in 16 mm, and many of the shorts screened—which vary from double-channel projections to music videos—offer portraits of artists, including, in some cases, self-portraits of the filmmaker themselves. The post-screening discussion will explore what it means to be an experimental filmmaker today.
