Artist Talk: Between the Door and the Street
Saturday, October 12, 2013
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor
Artist Suzanne Lacy joins Catherine Morris, Curator of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, and Nato Thompson, Chief Curator of Creative Time, to talk about her upcoming public project Between the Door and the Street
. This free, one-day performance taking place on Saturday, October 19
, will bring together small groups of people from various activist organizations to engage in unscripted dialogues seated on the stoops of a residential street in Prospect Heights. They will openly discuss social justice topics—such as changing gender roles, labor, violence, poverty, and migration—in relation to feminism, while the public wanders freely between stoops to absorb the conversations. The dialogue between Lacy and Morris will contextualize the project within Lacy’s greater body of work, as well as the intersecting histories of feminist, public, and participatory art.
This event is free with Museum admission, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis.
