Summer School with Pioneer Works: “Tools for Impossible Ideas”

Thursday, July 17, 2014

7–9 pm

Brooklyn Museum,

This summer we’re partnering with Pioneer Works to present a series of two-part classes, inspired by our exhibitions, that explore how artists use diverse tools to develop ideas.

Tools for Impossible Ideas (Approaching Civic Freedom through Public Art)

Led by Nancy Nowacek

Thursday, July 17, at Brooklyn Museum: gallery walk-through

Tuesday, July 22, at Pioneer Works, Red Hook: hands-on workshop

This class examines relationships between people and public space, how the city can be used as a framework for imagination, and definitions of public space and "the public."

In the first session, we’ll explore the methods and strategies behind a select group of public art projects. In the second session, we’ll collaborate on a project that puts these strategies to work.

The class fee is $45, which includes both sessions, Museum general admission, and a ticket to the exhibition Ai Weiwei: According to What?. For tickets, register on the Pioneer Works website. Cyclists, here’s a bike map for directions between the Museum and Pioneer Works.
