Performance in the Park: Maren Hassinger's Pink Trash

Sunday, July 23, 2017

1–3 pm

Tour: Meet in the Exhibition; Performance: Meet in front of Museum

Artist Maren Hassinger restages her 1982 performance Pink Trash, which explores ideas of public space and ethical citizenship by drawing attention to the ways New Yorkers engage with their local environment. Originally performed in Central Park, Prospect Park, and Van Cortlandt Park, this unique and exciting restaging of Pink Trash takes place in Prospect Park as part of We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965–85.

The afternoon includes:

  • 1 pm Special tour of We Wanted a Revolution and conversation with co-curator Rujeko Hockley and Maren Hassinger
  • 2 pm Walk to Prospect Park
  • 2:15 pm Performance of Pink Trash

After the performance, return to the Museum and explore our collection.

Free with Museum admission, but RSVP strongly encouraged.
