St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble: Vivaldi, Venice, and the Influence of Italy
Sunday, December 9, 2018
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor
The city of Venice was a melting pot of music, art, and culture during the Renaissance and Baroque eras, nourishing the creativity and careers of composers like Claudio Monteverdi and Antonio Vivaldi. In their first concert of the season, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble celebrates the festive city’s influence as a cultural tastemaker with a new instrumental suite using selections from Monteverdi’s groundbreaking opera L’Orfeo, Vivaldi’s trend-setting concertos and sonatas, and Corelli’s hypnotic and inventive Violin Sonata in D Minor “La Folia,” along with lesser-known virtuosic works by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber and Tarquinio Merula.
Tickets are $40 ($32 for Members) and are available at oslmusic.org.
