Teacher Institute 2017: Feminist Freedom School CANCELED

Wednesday, July 5, 2017

10 am–5 pm

This event has been canceled.

Create an equitable classroom filled with critically engaged students in this professional development workshop focusing on facilitation and questioning techniques.

In collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library and Brooklyn Botanic Garden, we call on the legacy of activism, innovation, and collaboration in education to develop the radical imaginations of the teachers of the future.

In 2017, our Teacher Institute has been re-envisioned as a Feminist Freedom School focusing on the exhibitions of A Year of Yes: Reimagining Feminism at the Brooklyn Museum. Teachers will spend time with Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern, We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965–85, and A Woman’s Afterlife: Gender Transformation in Ancient Egypt.

Schedule:

July 5: Introduction to Questioning, with our American Art collection

July 6: Critical Questioning, with our Contemporary Art collection

July 7: Introduction to library and archival object research and Brooklyn Connections with the Central Brooklyn Public Library

July 10: Facilitating Conversations, with our Egyptian Art collection

July 11: The scientific method and multimodal activities with Brooklyn Botanic Garden, with a focus on the European Art collection

July 12: Teacher Presentations and Feedback

Registration due Monday, June 26. K–12 teachers may receive 3 P-credits by also registering through ASPDP. The course fee is $375 and includes breakfast and lunch, admission to our Teacher Talks Series, and discounted parking. Additional fees apply for teachers seeking P-credits through ASPDP.
