Mickelene's art is bold, prideful, thought provoking, & energizing. She does "hit the nail on the head" and everywhere else. Brilliant, sparkly artist to choose for Brooklyn Museum's feature to start the new year perfectly.

loved the interplay between the Impressionists and Black aesthetic in the 21st century. the sister in the red dress and blue hat is workin it!

This is a fascinating exhibit, repurposing the most maligned rhinestone and making it an integral part of this riveting art. Superb.

Just amazing -- not least of all the documentary the artist made about her mother! I am so glad a woman on the second floor recommended that I come see this while I was here! Definitely will return at least once more for this one!

My second time visiting this particular exhibit and I am totally in awe each and every time. The beauty of the natural haired woman speaks so much volume. We are proud of who we are, what we stand for, and are here to stay. I am going to dread when it leaves. Hopefully Mickalene will be back again with more amazing art.

I saw Mickalene's exhibit in Santa Monica, and I am blown away by how different the experience is in this installation. The lighting, the flow of the pieces, and the background provided by the process collages and reference images are an amazing addition. Great job.

Michalene Thomas' "Origin of the Universe" exhibit was the reason I came to the Brooklyn Museum one month ago...and here I am again today. ::speaks for itself::

Visually lush, subtly and overtly feminist, yet because of it, imbalanced in the portrayal of Black beauty. Once again the Black man is out of the picture. Oh why I ask is this the new normal?

AMAZING exhibition! Thomas' work is such a pleasure to enjoy and learn from. I love the way the exhibition is curated, the context of the work becomes clear and interesting without too much wall text or information overload.
