Alfonsina Storni
b. 1892, Capriasca, Switzerland; d. 1938, Mar del Plata, Argentina
Alfonsina Storni, one of the most important Argentinean poets of the past century, was also an actress and theater educator. She helped establish the Argentine Society of Writers and was a major figure in the literary circles of Argentina. Her collections include El dulce dano (Sweet Pain, 1918), Irremediableminte (Irremediably, 1919), and Languedez (Languor, 1920). Her poems were often feminist in nature and critical of the machismo culture in which she lived.
