Beatrice de Die

Beatrice de Die was a troubadour (poet-musician) in Provence, France. Preoccupied with themes of courtly love, troubadour poetry flourished in southern France and northern Italy and had a profound impact on subsequent lyric poetry. Several women troubadours are known who, like Beatrice de Die, created verses from their own experiences of love. Beatrice’s poems were often set to the music of a flute; five of her works survive.
