Maria-Christine de Lalaing

Marie-Christine de Lalaing, wife of Pierre de Melun, governor of Tournai, Belgium, organized the defense of the city when it was besieged by the Spanish duke of Parma in 1581. Under her guidance, the city withstood attack for two months until it fell to the invaders.
