Marie Heim-Vögtlin

b. 1846, Arrgau, Switzerland; d. 1934, location unknown

Swiss physician Marie Heim-Vögtlin was one of a group of seven women—German, Russian, and American—who revolutionized medical education for women at the University of Zürich. Thanks to them, the university adopted co-education and women from around the world enrolled in the medical program. Heim-Vögtlin obtained her medical degree in 1873, becoming the first female physician in Switzerland.
