What Makes A Sanctuary?
Participants Antonio Alarcon, Carl Lipscombe, Dara Lind, Andrea Sáenz

Arrest, detention, and deportation are a daily threat to millions of immigrants. The Trump administration is doing all it can to remind people that no one is safe. New York rushed to claim the mantle of "sanctuary city," but protecting immigrants from ever-more-aggressive enforcement tactics is a tough, constant, and evolving struggle—and exposes the real, often deep and uncomfortable connections between immigration, "anti-terrorism," local policing, and racial injustice. Dara Lind, Senior Reporter at Vox, leads a conversation among immigrant advocates and immigration activists, illuminating these connections and revealing the difficult truths about justice in today’s America. The panel includes Andrea Sáenz (Supervising Attorney, Immigration Practice, Brooklyn Defender Services), Carl Lipscombe (Senior Advisor, Black Alliance for Just Immigration), and Antonio Alarcon (organizer, Make the Road New York). Introduction by Elizabeth Sackler. Video courtesy of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Foundation.
