Standing Buddha

Brooklyn Museum photograph
Object Label
This graceful Buddha once stood at one side of a much larger seated Buddha. A similar figure would have stood at the other side. It is likely that the original central figure was the historical Buddha Shakyamuni and that this smaller image depicts one episode from his life story. It is unclear which episode is depicted because the figure has lost a hand.
