The Brooklyn Museum will celebrate the arrival of six works by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) with a special installation opening March 3. The five paintings and one pastel were bequeathed to the Museum by the renowned American 20th-century-painter. Georgia O’Keeffe: Works from The Brooklyn Museum, an exhibition of 12 works that comprise the Museum’s holdings by the artist, will be shown in the Prints and Drawings Galleries, located on the second floor, through June 19, 1989.
The Museum’s holdings by O’Keeffe, which have doubled with the bequest, provide a survey, in miniature, of the major themes that concerned the artist for more than four decades. The collection now ranges from a remarkable series of early watercolor abstractions dated 1916 to Green, Yellow and Orange, a painting from the bequest dated 1960.
The other works in the bequest are Yellow Leaves, 1928; Rib and Jawbone, 1935; Fishhook from Hawaii No. 1, 1939; Dark Tree Trunks, 1946; and one pastel, Red Hills with the Pedernal, 1936.
The installation was organized by Barbara Dayer Gallati, Associate Curator of American Painting and Sculpture at the Museum.
