  • June 7, 1956 “High School Art, New York City, 1956” an exhibition of work produced by students of twenty city high schools, is currently on view at the Brooklyn Museum Art School Galleries in the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition consists of paintings, drawings, sculpture and crafts, and can be seen during regular museum hours until August 5.

    Six scholarship winners to the Brooklyn Museum Art School were selected from this exhibition. The work of seven additional students received honorable mention. The jury of selection was composed of Miss Olive Riley, Director of Art, New York City High Schools, Mr. John Gordon, Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Brooklyn Museum and Mr. Augustus Peck, Supervisor of the Brooklyn Museum Art School.

    Scholarship winners include: Frances Mandracchia of Washington Irving High School; Ellen Weiner of Bayside High School, Leonard Frey of James Madison High School; and Jerome Witkin, Rena Wallach and Robin Allen of the High School of Music and Art.
