Brooklyn’s Chassidim: A Photographic Study, an exhibition of photographs by Allen Rokach, will be on view in the Corner Gallery of The Brooklyn Museum, from November 8 through December 10.
The sixty photographs from a two-year photographic study of Brooklyn’s Chassidic communities include scenes of the Satmar community of Williamsburg and the Lubavitcher community of Crown Heights. The exhibition was designed and installed by Avel de Knight, Community Services Artist-in-Residence through the Cultural Council Foundation CETA Artists Project.
“In my photographs,” states Allen Rokach, “ I have tried to show the many varied faces of a people we have so often passed by [and] failed to see. I have attempted to project the rigors and joys of Chassidism, and to reveal their common humanity.”
