Catalogue Description:
Ceremonial axe. Greenstone, wood, coir, shells. Veined, light green discord blade fitted and tied to wood shaft which is completely wrapped in braided reddish-brown coir. Diagnostic New Caledonian face carved on both sides of shaft finial. Several long braided tendrils of coir hang from lower shaft, weighted by different kinds of shells. Condition: Excellent. Break in one cord holding together blade and shaft.
