Catalogue Description: Philadelphia Chippendale-style mahogany side chair with cupid bow back surmounted by a half circle enclosing a scroll and leaf design. Extending across the top rail are cords terminating in tassels. The central splat is pierced and carved in a ribbon design. The two uprights are decorated with fluting. The slip seat is covered in red damask (modern upholstery). The front seat rail is ornamented by a shell design in the center. The two front legs are cabriole with acanthus decorations on the knee and terminate in claw and ball feet. Condition: Fair, chair is unstable. There are open splits in the wood at the back splat, near a repair. The repair was noted in a survey report (see file), but the join is now open and flexible. The repair is located at the top, proper right corner of the splat. The back, lower edge of the chair back, where the splat is joined also appears to be a restoration piece of wood, associated with the repair.
