Catalogue Description: Circular medal with presentation box. Obverse: in relief, scene of female allegorical figure (Columbia) seated facing left, holding wreath and pole topped by pileus; flanked by eagle atop crest and cornucopia at right and spinning wheel and sheaves of wheat at left, sailing ship in background; text around edge, "AMERICAN INSTITUTE / NEW YORK." Reverse: register for inscription bordered by wreath of laurel leaves and "AWARDED TO." Presentation box: square hinged box covered in maroon-colored leather, lined inside with white satin on lid and blue velvet on box. Condition: good, tarnished.
