Petal from a Lotus Mandala

This petal formed a segment of a three-dimensional lotus mandala (cosmic diagram) with eight movable petals. The Buddhist deity Hevajra, with his consort Nairatma (Sanskrit for "selflessness"), originally stood in the center surrounded by eight goddesses. The goddess depicted on this petal, Chandali, represents the wish for the cessation of suffering for all sentient beings.
