Catalogue Description:
Side chair (one of four), macassar ebony veneer with ivory inlay. 71.150.7a-b is stamped on seat frame with #1; 71.150.8a-b is stamped with #4; 71.150.9a-b is stamped with #2 and 71.150.10a-b is stamped with #3. Slip seats upholstered in brown velour (2 & 3) and gray velour (1 & 4). The gray is the original covering. Low backs with ivory dot inlay in scroll motif across top. Seat rails straight, top side of front one cut away. Front legs taper and curve forward terminating with ivory cuffs. Rear legs taper and extend backward in cyma curve. CONDITION: Chair frames are in excellent condition, slip seats are very worn. After museum purchase, though, the chair frames were restored in Paris by H. Farina. Much of the veneer had chipped off and was missing. See restoration reports of 10/89 and 3/91.
