"CUR" at the beginning of an image file name means that the image was created by a curatorial staff member. These study images may be digital point-and-shoot photographs, when we don\'t yet have high-quality studio photography, or they may be scans of older negatives, slides, or photographic prints, providing historical documentation of the object.
CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION Wooden shield of rectangular shape with slight buckling at center of longer sides. Polychrome effect of natural wood, and black and brown stains. Profuse decoration of incised patterns lozenges, straight line diaper, etc. At each side is an ornament of concentric arcs in different colors. A characteristic "Kifwebe" mask with scooped face, at center. Longitudinal wooden handle at back. CONDITION: Mouth of mask chipped and paint rubbed off in spots; some chipping along edges. Shield has been cracked and repaired with glue.
