CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Yu Zhiding was a Kangxi-era painter; perhaps working with a professional portrait painting. the square painting, formerly an album leaf, is mounted on a hanging scroll with a page of calligraphy by Zhou Lianggong's nephew, the calligraphy is in a good running-script style, signed and sealed.

Colophon by Zhou Ming (fl. 17th c.; DHL, fn.541): II columns of archaic standard script. Inscription: I respectfully inscribed the painting of my respectful uncle Liweng [Zhou Lianggong] 'Playing the Qin,' your nephew Ming."
Seals: "Lufeng" (round relief); "Chen Ming seyin" (square intaglio)

Artist's inscription: "I painted this Fuqin tu ("playing the qin") for the eminent literatus Lilao [Zhou Lianggong]".
