"CUR" at the beginning of an image file name means that the image was created by a curatorial staff member. These study images may be digital point-and-shoot photographs, when we don\'t yet have high-quality studio photography, or they may be scans of older negatives, slides, or photographic prints, providing historical documentation of the object.
CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION A walnut open-back side chair in the Gothic Revival style. The slender beveled stiles are decorated with stylized leaf carvings on the shoulders, converging at the top into a simple pointed crest. The beveled back splats curve organically from the upper shoulders to create a pattern of positive and negative space inspired by Gothic architecture and window designs. The rectangular seat, upholstered in modern leather secured with brass tacks, is supported by four abstract zoomorphic legs terminating in stylized deer hooves. The two front legs are set onto the seat at an angle, creating an unusual stance for the feet that emphasizes the zoomorphic aspect of the legs.
