Catalogue Description:
Watercolor possibly of Mictlantecuhtli, the god of death, although he may be Mixcoatl, one of the principal gods of Tlaxcala because of the red and white candy-cane stripes on his body. However, a head in the form of a skull is not an attribute of Mixcoatl. Colors are red, blue, yellow and black, and the figure is outlined in black. This is a reproduction of one of the altar frescoes at the Tlaxcalan site of Tizatlán in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Condition: Fair; many losses along the edges, and stains along the top.
