Catalogue Description:
Door hinge. Two rectangles attached by central cylindrical pin capped at both ends by cylindrical finials with double-beaded ring at center and stepped, pointed tip. Each rectangle with different relief scenes on stippled grounds bordered by flat, linear moldings. Proper right hinge with relief scene of Asian male robed figure facing proper right standing behind fence with four vertically placed swastika designs. Lantern with linear decoration hangs from tree branch on upper proper left side of figure. Vertical zigzag pattern at proper right side of scene and fish-scale decoration in uppermost corner of proper left side of scene. Four vertically placed screw holes on proper right side of proper right hinge. Proper left hinge with relief scene of Asian female robed figure holding parasol facing proper left and standing behind fence with four vertically placed swastika designs. Floral and foliate relief decoration on proper left side of figure with four vertically placed screw holes. Cylindrical pin decorated with relief foliate and geometric patterns which connect the two scenes. Reverse of each hinge with flat undecorated rectangular field with four circular screw holes and impressed lettering. Innermost area of each hinge with rectangular field of relief decoration with inverted baluster vase with stylized flowers, diagonal decorative band and bird perched on tree branch. Condition: Some black incrustation in crevices on front of both plates. Green incrustation in lettering on reverse of plates.
