Catalogue Description: Conical vessel in which the thin clay of the rim has been torn and folded in on itself to create a flower-like form. The entire exterior is light gray with an eggshell-like coating of slip. Fujino is one of several Japanese women ceramicists whose non-conventional training -- usually in art schools rather than at historic kiln sites -- has led to new attitudes and approaches to ceramic manufacture. Fujino began work in textile and fashion arts and some of her experience in drapery informs her handling of clay. Accompanied by a traditional wood storage box, inscribed and sealed by the artist. "10-3" inscription on the box indicates that this was the third piece she signed in 2010.
