The Brooklyn Museum is deeply committed to safeguarding your privacy online. We do not collect personally identifiable information about individuals—such as names and postal and/or email addresses—except when it is knowingly provided by said individuals. This Privacy Policy only applies to transactions made and data gathered on the brooklynmuseum.org website and does not apply to any other website. The terms of this Privacy Policy shall govern all interactions with the Museum through either the Museum's website or email. By using the Museum's website or communicating with the Museum by email, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. Information Provided by Visitors

When You Register
You may use the Brooklyn Museum's website without registering or submitting any personally identifiable information. However, in order to have access to certain options, such as our Commentary Feature (The Posse) and the Museum's email newsletters, you must register with us online.

If you decide to register with us online, you will be asked to provide personally identifiable information that may include a user name and password, your name, email address, postal address, and phone number. Online memberships are processed through a secure server, NetSolutions.

When You Make Purchases Online at the Brooklyn Museum Shop
The information you provide on the online order form (your name, address, telephone numbers, credit card information, and email address) is used for billing purposes, to fill the order, and to reach you if we have trouble processing your order.

Yahoo! hosts the store pages, ordering system, and order data. Yahoo! automatically collects order information but may only use this information in the aggregate. If you accessed the Brooklyn Museum Shop through Yahoo! Shopping, Yahoo! also automatically collects information about your shopping experience. Please see the Yahoo! The Brooklyn Museum does not sell or give out customer information obtained from our online store.

When You Make a Donation or Purchase a Membership Online
The Museum will ask you to provide personally identifiable information necessary to process and service your Membership and/or donation that may include your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, email address, and credit card number. When you make a donation or purchase a Membership online, your credit card information will be temporarily stored on a secure server NetSolutions. We will retain the personally identifiable information you provided for our records and to facilitate customer service.

How the Museum Uses Information Provided by Visitors
The Brooklyn Museum uses the information you provide to fill your online order, facilitate customer service in the Brooklyn Museum Shop or in the Membership department. If you decide to utilize our MailChimp option, the Museum will use your information to provide you with updates about exhibitions, programs, and special offers available to you.

Any personally identifiable information voluntarily provided by you will be used for the purpose(s) for which the information was provided and may be shared with other carefully screened reputable organizations or companies whose products and services might interest you but whose privacy policies may differ from the Brooklyn Museum's. Your personally identifiable information will not be disclosed or used for purposes other than those specified without your consent, except as authorized by law.

Opting Out
If you prefer not to have your personally identifiable information shared this way, you may indicate this at the time you provide the information. If an "opt-out" option is not offered, or you decide after you have provided this information that you do not want us to share your information with any other organization, you may send us an email requesting that we not share your personally identifiable information with third parties for marketing purposes. We cannot, however, remove your name from any third-party list; you will have to contact them directly.

Email Communications

Newsletters
If you sign up for or subscribe to an email newsletter, discussion list, or special interest alert, you will receive the information that you have requested; you have the option of unsubscribing or removing your name from the list at any time. By providing this information, you may receive occasional email messages from the Brooklyn Museum or other organizations, for marketing and promotional purposes.

Emails
The Museum tries to respond to email messages requiring a response, including customer service inquiries related to purchases in the Museum Shop, within one week. If you email the Museum, your message and email address will be forwarded to the appropriate department within the Museum. Any message, material, business information, ideas, concepts, or other information sent to the Museum by email will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose but to contact you if needed.

Brooklyn Museum Commentary Feature (The Posse)
It is required that you provide your email information in order to be a member of the Brooklyn Museum Posse. The email address you provide will not be used for any other purpose but to contact you if needed. Your submissions (commenting, tagging), when using the Posse, must follow our comment guidelines and may be edited for clarity. We reserve the right to decide not to post your comments. You may be contacted regarding your comments. Your comments may be reused.

Cookies
The Brooklyn Museum website does not use cookies to collect or store any personally identifying information about users. A cookie is a small amount of data that is exchanged between your browser and the Brooklyn Museum web server and is unique to your browsing session. Cookies are used to provide a consistent experience for users that tag, comment, and choose favorite items in the online collection. Cookies are also necessary for some advanced Posse features such as set creation and the games Tag! You’re It! and Freeze Tag! If you choose to reject cookies, you will still be able to use the Brooklyn Museum website (including commenting and tagging), but you will not be able to participate in advanced Posse features.

A cookie is also sent to your browser when you visit our online Brooklyn Museum Shop, where it is only used to keep track of the items in your shopping order.
