Poetry Workshop: Rubin Museum Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room

Sunday, February 22, 2026, 11 am–1:30 pm

I See You Face to Face is a series of in-gallery writing workshops inspired by our current exhibitions and open to all experience levels. Honoring poetry’s place in the Brooklyn Museum’s history, the title comes from “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry” by Walt Whitman—who worked at the Brooklyn Apprentices’ Library, the Museum’s predecessor. It speaks to the power of sharing space with artwork and fellow poets.

Contemplate our Asian Art collection and the Rubin Museum Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room, and follow your poetic instincts. Join Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, associate professor of literature and creative writing at Villanova University, in the galleries for this generative creative-writing experience. Dhompa is the author of the poetry collection My Rice Tastes Like the Lake (Apogee Press, 2011) and the nonfiction book The Politics of Sorrow (Columbia University Press, 2025), among other publications.

The workshop will begin with an overview of the installation by Joan Cummins, Lisa and Bernard Selz Curator of Asian Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

Tickets  are $35. Member tickets are $21. Not a Member? Join today!
