Development Assistantā€”Development

The Development Assistant is a passionate, forward-thinking, and art-loving individual who is the foundation of the Deputy Director's office, supporting the Deputy Director and providing ancillary support to the department as a whole. We are currently experiencing unprecedented growth with a visionary director at the helm. The Development department is responsible for all fundraising activities and events, working with key stakeholders across all donor constituencies, and serving as a definitive focal point for our relationships with community supporters and influencers. The ideal Development Assistant will relish the opportunity to learn about this key role as well as our multifaceted programming and collections.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • One or more years of related professional experience in development at a not-for-profit organization
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with clarity and concision in a professional manner
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to multitask, prioritize, and learn quickly
  • Ability to problem solve under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Professional demeanor, engaging personality, and seamless team spirit
  • Willingness to assist with all tasks to ensure the success of projects
  • High level of motivation and a demonstrated sense of agency and proactive thinking when completing assigned projects and tasks
  • Ability to meet competing deadlines on time, while working independently and exercising thoughtful prioritization
  • Mature judgment and discretion with resepct to confidential and/or sensitive information
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in all communications
  • Sense of humor, collegial approach, and equanimity

Additional qualifications:

  • Art history degree or work experience in the visual arts preferred
  • Knowledge of and interest in the visual arts and museum operations is ideal
  • Experience with databases, particularly Raiser’s Edge, is desirable

Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage the Deputy Director’s calendar, with the proactive understanding that precision and dexterity are essential to effectively running the department and maintaining our most important relationships
  • Draft the Deputy Director’s correspondence, including cover emails, donor acknowledgements, and internal memos
  • Proactively coordinate the Deputy Director’s portfolio of donors and key stakeholders, including an action- and follow-up–oriented stance in moves management
  • Take on a large amount of administrative support work with a cheerful attitude, serving a tremendously strategic role in the successful functioning of the department
  • Collaborate with the team to consider and implement improved systems and processes
  • Support the Board Liaison and Development Communications Manager with the department's most important stakeholder relationships: the Boards of Trustees and Advisors
  • Work occasional evenings at events, as needed, which is an opportunity to directly engage with Museum leadership, donors, stakeholders, and artists
  • Liaise with other Museum departments for various and essential departmental needs
  • Provide general, cheerful, and enthusiastic support throughout the department, as requested

Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (occasional evening and weekend hours are required)
