Manager, Institutional Giving—Development
The Brooklyn Museum seeks a Manager of Institutional Giving, who will focus on increasing operating and capital support from foundations—with a special focus on city, state, and federal agencies—as well as from elected officials at all levels. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Institutional Giving, the Manager, Institutional Giving, is a new position that will work to build the Museum’s institutional giving program ahead of our two hundredth anniversary celebration in 2024.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Four or more years of experience in fundraising from foundations, government agencies, and elected officials
- Excellent expository writing, communication, and research skills; keen attention to detail; superior copy editing; and ability to interact with and anticipate funder needs
- Familiarity with building and reporting on complex project budgets
- Excellent time management, ability to meet deadlines, and flexibility to adjust workflow in relation to priorities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Results-oriented with a passionate commitment to the arts and appreciation of the Museum’s goals and mission
- Demonstrated understanding of local, state, and federal budget processes and funding opportunities for the arts
Preferred skills
- Experience with CRM systems, including Tessitura
Responsibilities
- Prepare and edit sophisticated and compelling proposals and LOI’s for capital and operating grants from government agencies, elected officials, and foundations
- Manage grants calendar tracking, including all hard and soft deadlines for the department, on an ongoing basis
- Produce a monthly calendar for Finance to ensure appropriate lead time for the preparation of budgets and expense reports; work with the Finance team to prepare budgets and reconcile accounts as well as participate in financial projection modeling
- Craft detailed reports and manage other aspects of stewardship, including direct contact with foundations and government agency staff
- In partnership with the Assistant Director, Institutional Giving, participate in planning short- and long-term strategies to meet fundraising goals
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the Museum’s strategic plan, mission, and vision, as well as the permanent collection, special exhibitions, and education and public programs, in order to effectively articulate our priorities and fundraising objectives to donors and prospects
- Research and prepare briefings on prospective donors for review by Institutional Development, the Director’s Office, curators and other project directors/managers, and board members as relevant
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date institutional donor records in the database and central files
