Sales Associate/Key Holder—Merchandising
The Brooklyn Museum is seeking an outgoing, engaging, and confident Lead Sales Associate/Key Holder to support the store leadership team in service, selling, and daily processes. Alongside the Assistant Manager, the Sales Associate will oversee the main shop, exhibition pop-up shops, sales team, and operations. The Key Holder wears multiple hats: they serve as the face of the Museum, deliver exceptional customer service and leadership, share our mission and vision, and help build our community. The ideal candidate is flexible, positive, and high energy and enjoys connecting with people and sharing their excitement about the Museum’s products, programs, exhibitions, and collections. They are self-starters, unfazed by challenges and excited by the ever-changing nature of our institution, and want to be part of a dynamic, diverse team.
Qualifications:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Minimum of two years of retail sales experience preferred
- Strong verbal, organizational, and communication skills
- Commitment to delivering a high level of customer service
- Ability to be a team player who can work independently and as part of a team
- Good time management skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks as needed, including lifting at least thirty pounds
- Flexibility with scheduling and availability to work retail hours, which may include day and evening hours, weekends, and/or holidays based on department and store needs
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Shop Manager:
- Maintain a highly professional and positive presence on the sales floor
- Proactively engage with customers to make recommendations to drive conversions and sales and create a memorable customer experience
- Ensure inventory is restocked on a daily basis and work with the Visual Merchandise Manager to maintain shop floor standards
- Manage transactions including sales, memberships, email capture, and seasonal gift wrapping
- Support and assist with store events and operations at all levels including physical inventory and cash handling, organization, and maintenance of back stock areas for main, exhibition, and pop-up shops
- Demonstrate, motivate, and lead sales associates in best practices for customer service and engagement while driving shop sales
- Ensure that sales associates are up to date on new arrivals, sales goals, exhibitions, programs, and events each week
- Be a liaison between shop management, leadership and sales colleagues
- Act as an ambassador for the Museum and shop by living our values and connecting our mission, vision, exhibitions, and collections to our unique product stories
- Uphold the Museum Shop standards, policies, and procedures as well as proactively connect to the Museum to support a holistic visitor experience
- Have regular, dependable attendance and punctuality

Schedule: Three to four shifts per week, Wednesday through Sunday, 10:30 am–6:30 pm. Hours subject to change for events in the Shop.
