Artist Talk: Andrea Arroyo: Tribute to the Disappeared

Saturday, February 27, 2016

2 pm

Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, 4th Floor

Artist Andrea Arroyo discusses Tribute to the Disappeared, an art project that honors the disappeared in Mexico and other victims of violence and injustice worldwide. Those victims include, in Mexico, forty-three students who disappeared before attending a demonstration and hundreds of women in Ciudad Juarez who have been murdered, as well as communities in Ferguson, Missouri, and in Nigeria. Just as the AIDS Memorial Quilt brought attention to the AIDS epidemic, this project sheds light on another epidemic that has claimed countless innocent lives. Isabel Martinez, Assistant Professor in the Department of Latin American and Latina/o Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, joins the conversation.

Free with Museum admission.
