Artistic Director Nicholas Armstrong leads the final program of the season with a concert featuring two American composers and Antonín Dvořák's beloved New World Symphony. The concert opens with the second movement of Louis Moreau Gottschalk’s Symphonie Romantique, known as “A Night in the Tropics.” Gottschalk, who composed the piece in 1859, was the first American concert pianist of international renown. This is followed by the four Dance Episodes from Brooklyn composer Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, commissioned in 1942 for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. The finale, New World Symphony, captures the fire and passion of Dvořák's American landscapes.
