Celebrate Oktoberfest and Brooklyn’s previous life as a brewery capital. Wear your vintage 1950s best and join Miss Rheingold as she returns to Brooklyn! Come early for a beer tasting with Brooklyn Brewery at 6 p.m.
Beauty and the Beer (Anne Newman, 2016, 75 min.) chronicles one of the most successful American marketing campaigns of the mid-twentieth century: the wildly popular Miss Rheingold Beauty Contest of 1941–64, in which people flocked to bars, grocery stores, theaters, and other public places to cast their ballots for their favorite young woman to represent Rheingold beer. The film features former Miss Rheingolds, advertising executives who worked on the campaign, and fans of the contest. Followed by a talkback with the director and with novelist Wally Lamb, a collector of Miss Rheingold memorabilia and author of She’s Come Undone, an Oprah’s Book Club selection.
All night, Michelin-starred Chef Saul Bolton presents “Burgers and Brew.” Select from craft beers including Brooklyn Dark Lager, Trappistes Rochefort, Braven IPA, and more, paired with the famous Norman Burger, featuring smoked cheddar, house-made pickles, and kitchen hand-cut fries.
