How did a 68-year-old artist from Nsukka, Nigeria, become a near-overnight sensation in the global art world? El Anatsui discusses his rise to fame, his inspiration, and the process behind the large-scale installations on view in Gravity and Grace with Kevin Dumouchelle, Associate Curator of the Arts of Africa and the Pacific Islands, and Susan Vogel, filmmaker and author of El Anatsui: Art and Life. A signing of the book by the author and artist will take place directly following the talk. A tour of the exhibition will be offered at 3:30 p.m.
Tickets, available at museumtix.com, are $12 and include Museum admission and a tour. Students and older adults may purchase discounted tickets of $8 on site the day of the program. Members receive free admission; please call the Membership Hotline at (718) 501-6326 for reservations.
