Panel Discussion: The Fearsome BMI! Women Artists and the Body

Saturday, March 23, 2013

2–2 pm

Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Auditorium, 3rd Floor

Presented by the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, this panel will address the Body Mass Index (BMI)—a number calculated using weight and height that supposedly provides a reliable indicator of body fat—and its impact on women, as seen through the eyes of contemporary women artists. Organized by the Rutgers Institute for Women and Art (IWA), with Founding Co-Director Judith K. Brodsky and Executive Director Tatiana Flores moderating the conversation among artists Laura Splan and Monica Ong, and Professor of Pediatrics Sayantani DasGupta.
