Bettisia Gozzadini

Flourished circa 1250, Bologna, Italy

There are many legends and few facts known about Bettisia Gozzadini, who lectured in law at the University of Bologna in the thirteenth century. She reputedly obtained her education disguised as a man and taught from behind a screen so that her beauty would not distract the students.
