Fede Galizia
b. 1578, Milan; d. 1630, Milan
Daughter of a painter who presumably trained her, Fede Galizia was extolled as an artistic prodigy at the age of twelve. Although she earned an international reputation as a portrait painter and she executed large-scale public commissions, today Galizia is also recognized as a pioneer in the genre of still-life painting in Italy.
