Martia Proba
Legendary, reputedly flourished circa 350 B.C.E., Britain
Martia Proba, better known as Queen Marcia, was the wife of King Guithelin of Britain in the fourth century B.C.E. Known to be very intelligent and creative, she excelled in both arts and law, creating a legal system known as the Lex Marciana. Following Guithelin’s death, their son Sisillius became king but he was too young so Marcia was named regent and ruled the kingdom in his place.
