Frequent Art Questions

  • What is the covering made of, and what is the process used to detail it? Is it leather?

Yes, this is the original leather upholstery. The leather would have been tooled, then dyed and gilded. Along with the fine carved mahogany, this would have been a very lavish and costly piece of furniture when it was made in 1885.
