Molded inscription at bottom of panel, below main register, on a stippled ground and in Gothic letters: "NEW YORK [strapwork] JOHN MATTHEWS PATENT [strapwork] MDCCCLXV." Incised under the sleigh in the main pictorial register: "K. MULLER" Scratched on back of one of the hinges: "H N"
