Object Label

Active and trained in the Tamba area, a historical center for ceramic production, Shimizu Ichiji uses the traditional Tamba clay but employs new forms of surface decoration. He uses an airbrush to apply different shades of liquefied clay (slip) onto the clay body before firing, allowing him to create speckles while maintaining a smooth, unglazed surface. Then, with a very steady hand, he paints gold or silver lines that accentuate the shape of the vessel.
